Tax Intelligence, Research and Nexus
Fi, your AI CFO, combines your live transactions and invoices with Fiskl's structured tax knowledge. Use it to research a tax question, check how a transaction should be taxed, and test whether your sales create a tax obligation elsewhere.
Before You Begin
Some capabilities depend on your plan. See Fiskl plans.
Tax Research
Fi answers tax questions from content indexed from official tax authorities, including:
- IRS (United States)
- HMRC (United Kingdom)
- IRAS (Singapore)
- ATO (Australia)
- SARS (South Africa)
Fiskl scans and indexes this guidance on a daily, weekly and monthly schedule. Fi matches the guidance to your region automatically.
Each rule carries the date it took effect and the date Fiskl last verified it. Fi answers with the rule in force for the date you ask about. Fi answers from verified sources and tells you when a rule's source is not yet verified.
Transaction-Level Tax Intelligence
Ask Fi how a specific transaction should be taxed. Fi applies the rules for the transaction's jurisdiction and answers with links to the source guidance, the effective date and the last-verified date. Fiskl's tax knowledge covers 249 countries and territories.
Fi also checks your ledger for tax that is missing, or inconsistent with similar transactions.
Nexus and Place of Supply
Fi checks your sales against US sales tax nexus rules and EU place-of-supply rules.
For a US state, Fi uses your invoices, including your location, your client's location and what you sold, to check:
- The state's economic nexus thresholds for sales value and number of transactions
- The state sales tax rate
- Whether your product or service is taxable there, and any special treatment, such as installation work
Fi explains which threshold or rule applies and which facts it used. Confirm any facts Fiskl does not hold, such as where you have staff or stock, before you register.
For example, ask: "Do my sales to New Jersey create a sales tax obligation?"
Tax Classification
Every tax rate in Fiskl records what the tax is, not only what it charges: its behaviour, tax type, rate band, reclaimable status and jurisdiction code. Classification covers taxed, zero-rated, exempt, reverse charge, out of scope and withheld-at-source treatments. It applies across the 27 EU member states, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.
Fiskl also supports the EU One-Stop Shop. Classification also drives the machine-readable tax codes in your e-invoices, such as Factur-X in Germany. See Classifying Tax Rates.
