Banking Connections Overview

This section covers how to connect your bank accounts, credit cards, and payment providers to Fiskl. Live banking connections eliminate manual data entry by automatically importing transactions, giving you accurate, up-to-date records ready for categorisation and reconciliation.

Connecting your bank starts in Fiskl, when you choose Connect bank. You pick a provider, like Salt Edge or Yodlee. The provider links to your bank, and your transactions sync from the bank to the provider. Fiskl then makes its own connection to that provider. The connection has a bank account for each account you linked, here a checking account and a savings account. A bank account in Fiskl doesn't hold transactions. It points to a ledger account. Fiskl fetches the transactions from the provider, and each one goes straight into the ledger account its bank account points to. Each one is saved as a finished entry. One side is your checking account, the other starts as Uncategorized Expense or Income. Later, automation or someone on your team gives it a real category. There's no inbox and nothing waiting to be posted. Banking and Accounting show the same transactions. If you disconnect your bank, the connection goes, and so do the bank accounts inside it. But your ledger accounts stay exactly as they were, with every transaction still in them. Your ledger is where your transactions live. The connection is just how they arrive.

What Banking Connections Do​

Linking a financial account to Fiskl creates a live feed of your transactions. Once connected, Fiskl imports your transaction history and surfaces each item in the Banking tab, where you can categorise, match, and reconcile against your ledger accounts.

Banking connections support the full range of account types: current accounts, savings accounts, credit cards, and payment processor accounts such as Stripe. You can connect accounts in multiple currencies within the same company.

Fiskl uses industry-standard Open Banking protocols. Your bank login credentials are never stored by Fiskl — authentication is handled entirely by the connection provider.

Supported Connection Providers​

To connect a bank account, go to Banking in the left menu and select Connect bank. Fiskl partners with four providers to give global coverage. The right provider depends on your bank's location and account type.

If you operate in multiple regions, you can connect accounts through different providers within the same Fiskl company — for example, Yodlee for a US account and Salt Edge for a UK account.
