Time & Mileage
This section explains how to track time and mileage in Fiskl for accurate client invoicing and complete expense records.
Why Track Time and Mileage
Time and mileage tracking helps service-based businesses capture billable work that might otherwise go unbilled. Accurate tracking ensures you get paid for every hour worked and every mile driven.
Key benefits:
- Capture all billable hours and travel for complete invoicing
- Maintain records for tax deductions and expense reporting
- Gain insights into project profitability and time allocation
- Provide transparent billing details to clients
Key Concepts
- Billable entries: Time or mileage that can be added to client invoices for payment
- Non-billable entries: Work or travel tracked for internal records or tax purposes
- Rate: The amount charged per hour (time) or per unit of distance (mileage)
- Line items: Time and mileage entries become line items when added to invoices
How It Works
Time and mileage entries follow this workflow:
- Track: Record time worked or miles traveled
- Review: Check your unbilled entries for completeness and accuracy
- Bill: Add entries to client invoices as line items
- Invoice: Send invoices to clients with detailed time and mileage breakdowns
Time and mileage entries are standalone records that exist independently until you add them to invoices. This gives you the flexibility to track work as it happens and bill clients on your schedule.
You can also set recurring invoices to automatically include unbilled time and mileage entries.
