Client Pays Model
The Client Pays model allows your clients to manage their own Fiskl subscriptions while you maintain full accounting access. This guide explains how the model works and helps you invite clients using referral links.
How Client Pays Worksβ
In the Client Pays model, your clients pay for their own Fiskl subscriptions directly. You generate a unique invitation link to send to each client. After your client sets up their account and adds a payment method, you receive an invitation to access their account.
This model offers flexibility for both parties. Clients maintain control over their subscription and billing, while you gain the accounting access needed to manage their financial records. Either party can disconnect the relationship at any time.
Key Benefitsβ
For your firm:
- No subscription costs to manage
- Clients handle their own billing
- Optional referral revenue through the Partner Program
- Full accounting access to client accounts
For your clients:
- Direct control over subscription
- Freedom to choose their plan
- Ability to manage billing independently
- Option to disconnect if needed
Inviting Clientsβ
Before You Beginβ
Ensure you have:
- Active branch in your Accounting Portal
- Client's email address
- Referral link ready (if enrolled in Partner Program)
Stepsβ
-
Open the client invitation flow
Go to your branch dashboard and select Add Client.
-
Choose Client Pays
Select Client Pays as the billing model.
-
Generate invitation link
The system generates a unique invitation link for this client. If you're enrolled in the Partner Program, you can select which referral link to use.
-
Copy the invitation details
Select Copy Link to copy the invitation URL. Alternatively, select Copy Email Template to copy a pre-formatted message that includes the link.
-
Send the invitation
Send the link or email template to your client from your own email system. Fiskl doesn't send invitation emails automatically.
What Happens Nextβ
After you send the invitation, your client receives the link and follows these steps on their end:
- The client selects the link and creates their Fiskl account
- The client chooses a subscription plan
- The client adds their payment method through Stripe
- You receive an email notification with an invitation to access their account
- You accept the invitation to gain accounting access
Once you accept, the client appears in your branch dashboard. You can now access their account, manage their financial records, and assign other accountants from your team.
Managing Client Accessβ
After connecting to a client account, you can manage which accountants have access and what permissions they have.
Adding Accountants to a Clientβ
- Go to your branch dashboard
- Select the client from your client list
- Select Manage Access
- Add accountants and assign their permission levels
Each accountant can have different permissions for the client account, such as read-only access or full administrative rights.
Disconnecting from a Clientβ
Either you or your client can disconnect the relationship at any time. When disconnected:
- You lose access to the client's account
- All accountants from your firm lose access
- The client retains their account and data
- The client's subscription continues unchanged
To disconnect, go to the client's account settings and select Disconnect Accountant.
Branch and Currency Considerationsβ
Each client belongs to a specific branch in your organization. The client's currency doesn't need to match the branch currency. For example, a branch operating in EUR can manage clients using GBP, USD, or any other supported currency.
You cannot move clients between branches after creation. Choose the appropriate branch carefully when adding new clients.
